PREMISE
A once-grand ship runs across an endless desert, bearing within it precious, dangerous cargo: all the life in the world, and all the souls of its dead.

Pluviosa is a horror game set on a long-abandoned cruise ship - although it's not exactly accurate to call it abandoned when it's full Life After Humans going on inside. Subthemes include body horror/corruption, psychological horror, mystery, exploration, in-universe unreality, and atmospheric horror; the tone is Nausicaa aesthetic meets Jurassic Park with a little bit of Locked Tomb for spice. Characters wake up on a strange ship full of unnaturally vibrant vegetation, decrepit mechanisms, and ghosts, and must assemble information to eventually solve the mysteries behind the ship and put these ghosts to rest if they are to have any hope of returning home.

Characters will have the run of the ship, with assigned housing arrangements, and roommates (2 characters to a room) when housing approaches capacity. Basic food and water are provided (characters will not struggle with avoiding starvation on top of everything else). Character death is likely during events, and possible outside of events, especially in explorations of the deeper and more dangerous parts of the ship. Multiple supernatural powers wrestle for control of the ship and characters, but this is not a factions game. Instead, affinity with the powers allows characters access to different plot opportunities, event effects, and post-death revival mechanics.

Events will be of variable length. Major events average every three months; however, minor events may occur between major events (as the mod team has time and energy). Some major events will include sign-up options, to help ensure player comfort and so that mods can individualize events to characters more easily. These events may include mental modification (brainwashing, perception alteration, and behaviour alteration), as well as PVP between characters. Signing up to these events is always optional; however, there may be other portions of events that characters cannot easily avoid. Although the game is genred as horror, the goal is to be on the lighter end of the horror spectrum, with reliable hope spots and no total despair points.

The goal is a slower paced, moderate-to-high player engagement game with a run time of around two years. The game will be small-to-medium sized, with a starting cap of 40 players (with an initial cap of two characters per player) and an application queue system. (Player cap may increase later depending on player interest and mod energy.) Activity check is check-in only at several-month intervals. In addition to traditional threads over Dreamwidth, the game is hybridized with Discord to provide both players and mods another option for IC interaction. Pluviosa allows canon characters and OCs, along with fan-created AU versions of characters (including CRAUs).
